Hockey
A game deriving from a truly ancient sport

In 1871, members of the Teddington cricket club, who had recently moved to play in Bushy Park, were looking for a winter activity, following a wet summer. They experimented with a 'stick' game, based loosely on the rules of association football. Naturally enough they used old cricket balls. The club colours of brown and pink reflect the colours of autumn in Bushy Park. Teddington Hockey Club is the oldest in the world but this is the only pictorial record available to us.
